NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES I
Barton, who owns a
3.81 Grade Point Average,
was one of 257 baseball
players from within the
NAIA to be awarded the
laurel. Barton is an Ac-
counting and Business
Administration major at
AIB College of Business.
To be eligible for the
award, athletes must be of
at least junior academic
standing, maintain a cu-
mulative grade point aver-
age of 3.5 or above on a 4.0
scale and have attended
the nominating institution
for at least one full aca-
demic year.
The All-Midwest Colle-
giate Conference baseball
team has been announced
and after a solid 2014 base-
ball campaign, the Des
Moines AIB Eagles earned
eight spots on the team.
Earning First-Team All-
Conference honors were
Colton Barton, Zach Close,
Tyler Huffman, Jay StoLtt
and Shawn Wardian. On
the Honorable-Mention
All-Conference team were
Jordan Daane, Rob Ingram
and Steven Leverett. Both
Close and Stout also re-
ceived Gold Glove team
honors.
Pitcher, Barton, earned
honors after snatching a 7-
0 win-loss record. His ERA
was a 2.82, including 20
strikeouts and only five
walks. "Colton worked his
way into our pitching ro-
tation and he kept getting
the ball because he kept
getting the job done," said
head baseball coach Chad
Harris. "He is a great
teammate and he put him-
self in the position to earn
this award. We put him in
tough situation after tough
situation and more times
than not, he got the big
out. He only walked five
hitters in 38 plus innings.
He is proof that when you
throw strikes, good things
happen."
