"According to statistics, this will cut down on back injuries for employees," said Richardson of the new equipment. As seen in the nighty news recentl Fire Departments with similar call volumes have imple- mented these technologies to reduce the potential of injuries to employees and they have seen a reduction in the number of missed days due to injuries. The City's Worker's Compensation Insurance provider is currently working on a partnership grant with a manufacturer of a brand of power cots as they have also seen a reduc- tion in injury claims by department's utilizing these (or similar) devices. The purchase of power cots will ben- efit all Norwalk EMT's and Paramedics in making the job safer. Richardson said he hopes to have all EMS per- sonnel trained and certified to use the new equipment by the end of August.
